Soccer is a Success.. for this week!!

We went into the weekend with our expectations high and low.. Low for Logan and high for Tatum. So Saturday afternoon we hit the field. Ok.. I should back up.. our expectations were low for Logie because he had not really seemed to into soccer. Wanted to be there, but a little, ADD at practice! He would walk thru drills, eat his practice jersey, basically be a typical 5 yr old boy! SO with all that said we into the weekend with the idea he was there to have fun and run around ( that is what 5 yr old boys do, right?) Fine by me, maybe not so fine with Jon, but acceptable! We hit the field and it was like a switch went off! He was some sort of soccer stud. He was some other child I had never seen. Very focused and driven. He ran, was aggressive, got dirty ( we all know he hates this) fell down and got back up, he even chased down a fast break and managed to cut him off and save the goal. He even scored 3 goals.. yep 3!! He was amazing and I was so proud of him for stepping up and asserting himself. Jon and I looked at each other in amazement. I do believe Jon's words were.. "Logan has surpassed all expectations!" He was very proud of himself and we made sure to point out the little things he achieved in the game that were big steps for him.. good sportsmanship, getting dirty and playing thru it, running hard and being a good teammate. I am going to post a video later.. Now Tatum on the other hand.. hmm not sure where her mind was.. We do know she was pretty bent that Logan's game went so well. Not sure why... maybe cause she was not the center of the universe.. but for some reason or another her head was not quite in the game. She played well, even scored a goal with 2 assists ( actual passes.. ) she just did not play with her whole heart and she knew it. (as did most that were watching.. people kept asking! ) But by the end of the game she was he typical self.. I think it just took a little while. Her team looked great.. They have learned a lot and are really working as a team. ( they have been together for 2 years now)No bunch ball and really passing and looking for the open spots. We think T will end up in the midfield because she loves to attack but loves to play "d".. She is really understanding the game and knows when to turn outside vs. inside. When to clear the middle, and when to push the ball up the sideline. It is really fun to watch her growth of the game! I am very proud of her achievements.. just want my kids to learn the lesson of " if we are going to something in life no matter what it is.. do it with all your heart and soul, or do not do it.." I have always preached to my players that if you are not 100% into something with your whole heart that it is not worth it. It has to be fun! Now, I do not expect this from my young children, just trying to teach life lessons for the future! So all in all great weekend and we look forward to many more!

Ps.. bonus was we got to have date night that night with our friends the Liles.. (their daughter Jessie is one of Tatum's BFF) we had a ton of fun and some good stories!
